Equestrian Break (€235 per person)

Ireland is known the world over as The Land of the Horse. And Tipperary is at its centre. some of the best known names in the business claim Tipperary as their home – Coolmore Stud, Aidan O’Brien in Ballydoyle and others.

Day 1 Arrival at Saratoga Lodge.

Dinner in Saratoga Lodge where equestrian paintings and memorabilia line the walls. 3 course dinner will feature fruit and vegetables from the Lodge’s own gardens and other locally sourced produce.

Day 2: Morning guided tour of BARNANE STUD . (Mares and foals from January until September). Hear the stories, learn about some of its famous progeny and ask about its Guinness World Record.

Afternoon:  Visit  Crossogue Equestrian.  Here, guests can  chose between  a gentle ride through the Tipperary countryside or a more challenging afternoon on the gallops or over cross country obstacles.

Tonight, Valerie will recommend some of the high quality restaurants in the area for dinner.

Day 3: Morning:  Private visit to a famous stud farm, home to some of the finest stallions in the world. The Stud it not usually available to the public but guests of Saratoga Lodge enjoy unique access. On request, Valerie will prepare a special packed lunch for your day’s excursion or you may choose to visit acclaimed Cafe Hans restaurant in Cashel. Afterwards visit the Rock of Cashel before returning to Saratoga Lodge.

Afternoon:  Optional 2 hr. trap ride to the source of the Rivers Suir and Nore. Booking in advance. Return to Saratoga Lodge for dinner featuring produce from Valerie’s garden and other local producers.

Day 4: Leisurely breakfast before packing your bags and departing Saratoga Lodge.

Price €235 per person sharing includes:

  • 3 nights Bed and Breakfast
  • Dinner on 2 nights in Saratoga Lodge
  • Guided tour of Barnane Stud and another local world famous stud.
  • Afternoon at Crossogue Equestrian

Does not include optional trap ride.

Tipperary Heritage Break (€160 per person)

During this short break in Tipperary,  your host Valerie Beamish directs guests to some of the  area’s hidden gems, giving them a unique insight into the life of the county.

Day 1: Arrival at Saratoga Lodge. Tonight, dine in the warmth of Saratoga Lodge where equestrian paintings and memorabilia line the walls.  3 course dinner will feature fruit and vegetables from the Lodge’s own gardens and other locally sourced produce.

Day 2: Morning: Visit the workshop of a local craftsman making hurleys and violins. Walk one of the waymarked walks around Upperchurch. Lunch in one of the area’s traditional pubs.

Afternoon:  Visit Ireland’s first Eco Village in Cloughjordan. Then onto Nenagh Heritage Centre. Afterwards, stroll down to Peter Ward of Country Choice, the acclaimed cafe and deli. Back to Saratoga Lodge to relax. Dinner in one of the fine local restaurants that Valerie will recommend.

Day 3: Enjoy a leisurely breakfast. Valerie will prepare a fresh packed lunch featuring local produce for your day trip. Then onto Templemore to visit the Garda College & Museum. The College was build in 1815 and now houses a world leading police training academy and museum. Continue to the heritage Town of Birr, famous for its wide streets and Georgian houses. Visit Birr Castle Demesne, home to Lord Rosse and his family. Visit the Gardens and the ancient telescope. We recommend dinner at the characterful Thatch pub in Crinkle, just outside Birr. Then back to Templemore for an evening of traditional music with Joe Foy.

Day 4: Leisurely breakfast before packing your bags and departing the quiet, peaceful setting of Saratoga Lodge.

  • Dinner one night
  • Packed lunch featuring fresh produce from the farm and from other local food suppliers.

Saratoga Lodge forms part of a working stud where mares and foals graze the rolling pastures of the Golden Vale. Your host Valerie Beamish is an accomplished cook. Food is sourced as much as possible from their own farm or from other trusted local food producers.
